Vegan celebrities are everywhere, from the Hollywood fraternity to popular sports. The choices of celebs tend to influence us, and this mostly applies to lifestyle-related decisions. The term ‘veganism’ denotes a lifestyle and diet. When a well-known celebrity declares that they only consume plant-based food items, it tends to make headlines. Here is a list of five celebs who have already been in the news for their diet.

Venus Williams

One of America’s beloved tennis players, Venus Williams started following a vegan diet after she developed Sjogren’s Syndrome, an autoimmune condition. The senior member of the Williams sisters credits it for her capability of performing at her best. “Once I started, I fell in love with the concept of fuelling your body in the best way possible,” told Venus Williams in a 2017 interview with the magazine Health.

Benedict Cumberbatch

The organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) termed Benedict Cumberbatch 2018’s ‘most beautiful vegan’. This is as much a compliment to the Doctor Strange star’s good looks as it is a testament of his eating habits. He revealed his diet choice when promoting the movie ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, where he essayed the role of Doctor Strange. Now, his diet is perhaps as famous as his real-life characters.

Meghan Markle

When it comes to anything ethical, Meghan Markle is one name that often springs to mind. The Duchess of Sussex may be as known for her ethical pieces of jewelry as she is for her vegan diet. She has not been following this diet all her life. However, she has revealed her occasional affinity for plant-based food many times, most notably when filming her drama series named ‘Suits’.

Joaquin Phoenix

There is a more vegan connection to this Oscar-winning Hollywood actor than that meets the eye. For one, he was born to an eco-conscious couple. He was once named Leaf, a vegan thing, before he changed it to Joaquin. At the start of his career, he also rejected offers to appear in commercials for dairy and meat products. He is a vegan even today, and one of the best-known PETA ambassadors. Speaking of saying no to animal cruelty and exploitation, Phoenix’s profile or credentials will take some beating.

Jennifer Lopez

Becoming a vegan has given this singer and actor much energy. Known as J-Lo in music circles, she says consuming leafy vegetables makes her feel better. Her only regret about going vegan is the fact that she misses consuming butter. After all, even celebrities have food-related sentiments, just like us commoners.
